E911 Compliance and How It Works

When someone on your PJL phone dials 911, the call needs to reach the right Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and deliver a location to first responders. With VoIP, location isn't automatic — phones move and IPs don't know where they physically are.

What we do

  • Each registered extension has a registered service address in our system
  • When 911 is dialed, the call is routed to the PSAP for that address
  • The address is delivered to the PSAP so responders go to the right place

What we need from you

Keep your registered addresses up to date. If a user moves desks across the same building, no change needed. If they move to a different building (a new office, a home for remote work), tell us so we can update the E911 address.

Mobile / softphone

911 from the mobile app uses your cellular service when possible (more accurate location). The desktop softphone uses the registered address.
